Hi everybody!
Sorry we didn‘t write such a long time, we had so much to do in Hamburg. Our trip is finished now and we are already planing the next one
We had a wonderful time on the road, met people from different countries, different religions and learnt a lot about the life and the culture in those areas. We truelly enjoyed it and want to thank all the people who helped us (in Siberia for example…). We‘ll be as soon as possible on the road again and won‘t let our bicycle rest to long…
see you
m & j
just about 1000km cycling kilometers to come and we are home again!
after we finally managed to leave kiyv (in the 3rd attempt) and fixed our bikes again, we are now in lviv, a really beautiful city in the west part of ukraine. next week we‘ll climb over the last mountains, enter hungary and follow the donau river up to vienna.
but for now we are in the middle of an real east european autumm: its raining, snowing and bloody windy.
not allways much fun to cycle…
today lviv remembers the ukrainian independance movement under the sovjet occupation, the town is full of people waving flags, music is played everywhere and everybody is really patriotic.
on our tour du communisme (all countries we‘ ve been to on this tour have a communist history or claim that they are still communistic..) ukraine is the country with the lowest amount of lenin/stalin/mao monuments.
we‘d loved to show you pictures, but sadly the computer refuses to help us again – the photos will follow.
We did‘nt write for a long time, sorry. we are back in europe now, after spending incredible 8 month on the asian continent.
currently we are in the capital of ukraine, kiev. right now we are faceing bit of a crisis, have‘nt cycled for some days and we are absolutly unsure were to go next. morgane cought a quite nasty flu so there is no cycling for us this days.
we really liked russia, esspecially siberia is a great place and people are really kind. nature is just amazing and the food much better for vegeterians.
cycling and camping in siberia was an adventure: we had frost IN our tent but our discount sleepingbacks prooved their quality and we can still move all our toes and fingers..
again we tried to find some nice shortcut over some mountains directly to Lake Baykal. sure, the tracks and towns, which were on our map, did‘nt really exist so we were cycling in beautiful forest without seeing anyone for two days. the track got worse and worse so we decided to turn back. we were running out of supplies, were damn hungry and the weather was nasty.
after pushing the bikes throu mud for some hours we met human beings again (2 men with dog) and this guys told us that the track to lake baykal was totally blocked and there was no chance to get there except taking the main road (wich is 200km longer). so we did right by turning back.
after the russian gave us ALL their lunch (spassiba!) we countinued and got to the main road two days later.
Lake Baykal is the biggest Lake on earth, it contains around 20% of the world’s liquid fresh water (twice as much water as the baltic sea!), is the deepest lake in the world and holds a lot more records. i just know: its really cold!
the trainride on the transsib was fantastic, the landscape quite boring but the company we had in the 3rd class was interesting and entertaining.
we shared our compartment with an old russian couple (they nearly had as much luggage as we do – just the kind of luggage was different- they had lots of tomatoes, onions, honey from their datscha in the middle of siberia) and a rock band from irkutsk . so we had nice 77hours on the train, drunk some vodka, played some kniffle and improved our russian.
moscow was interesting too, huge and really expensive. we have never seen so many luxury cars as we did in the russian capital. for cyclist there is not much space in this megacity.
we hope morgane will be healthy again soon and we can continue our journey towards west.
sorry that there are no pictures again, we try to solve this problem soon!
thanks for your attention,
morgana, alexej
доброе утро!
we are now 10 days in russia and really like it. the people are so friendly and the landscape is wonderfull! we are happy to take a train this afternoon to go to moscow (we are currently in irkutsk, at the lake baikal) because we are a bit tired. the train journey is 3 days (77 hours) so we‘ll have enough time to rest ![]()
we‘ll write again from the russian capital,
j,m
